Bollywood beauty Alia Bhatt made her highly anticipated return to the Met Gala 2024, and this time around tapped into her desi side for some fashion inspiration.
The actress, no stranger to the Met Gala spotlight, made a grand entrance in a breathtaking floral Sabyasachi saree. With a sweeping train, Bhatt’s ensemble was nothing short of a show-stopping moment, capturing the attention of onlookers and photographers alike.

Speaking about the creation, the actress told Vogue, “Im feeling great, and very excited.This has been months of preparation, and lots of conversation. It all builds up to this one moment. It’s so real, but also so special.

The actress represented the country, in the stunning sheer saree, created by Sabyasachi. Speaking about her fashion choice for the evening, she said, “It is my second time at the met, but my first time wearing a saree. When I thought of the dress code, ‘Garden of Time‘, I felt that it needed something timeless. And, there is nothing more timeless than a saree.”

In a departure from the Gala’s typical avant-garde fashion, Bhatt’s embrace of tradition added a refreshing and captivating dimension to the event. With the theme centred around “The Garden of Time,” the actress’s choice to don a saree resonated deeply, showcasing her appreciation for the timeless elegance of Indian attire. Speaking about the creation with its exquisite detailing, Alia said, “This is all hand embroidery. It took 1905 man hours and 163 craftsmen to make this ensemble.”
“I’m so excited to bring this out to the world for everybody to see because it has taken a lot of love and labour and effort. And, anything that has gotten love and time, lasts forever, like the garden,” she added.

The Sabyasachi creation worn by Bhatt exuded sophistication and charm, featuring intricate embroidery and luxurious fabrics that accentuated her natural grace. Paired with statement jewellery and a classic hairstyle, her ensemble captured the essence of Indian couture while simultaneously making a bold statement on the international stage.
