The 2016 released ‘Sultan’ to date is one of the most entertaining Bollywood movies. Besides the story, it was Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma’s pairing that helped the movie garner appreciation. Looking back, one can’t imagine anyone but Anushka to have played the respective role. However, did you know Anushka Sharma wasn’t the first choice for the movie?
The revelation was made by Salman during an episode of Bigg Boss 15, where Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur came for the promotion of ‘Jersey.’ He shared that Anushka Sharma wasn’t the initial choice for the film; it was another talented actress, who met him with director Ali Abbas Zafar before Sharma and was originally considered for the role.

Salman Khan said, “Let me tell you an interesting fact about her. The original star of Sultan was her. She came to the farm (house) to meet me. Ali (Abbas Zafar) had brought her. And that time she didn’t look like a pahalwan (wrestler).” Salman then candidly admitted, “I thought in my mind that she doesn’t look like a pahalwan. Well, even Anushka (Sharma) didn’t look like one. But I knew she would do good.”
‘Sultan’ featured Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma as wrestlers, exploring their journey in the sport. Despite not fitting the traditional wrestler appearance, both actors received acclaim for their performances, and the film was a significant success.

Looking ahead, Salman Khan is gearing up for ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan,’ and his brother Sohail Khan plans to revive ‘Sher Khan,’ a jungle-adventure film starring Salman and Kapil Sharma, scheduled to go on floors in 2025. Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma who was last seen in a special appearance in ‘Qala’, recently welcomed her baby boy, Akaay.
