Gary Sinise announces death of 33-year-old son Mac Sinise after long battle with rare spinal cancer | – Times of India

Actor and philanthropist Gary Sinise has announced the heartbreaking demise of his son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, who succumbed to a rare form of cancer at the age of 33.
According to reports, Mac fought a courageous battle against Chordoma, for over five years before his passing on January 5, 2024.
Gary shared the devastating news in a heartfelt blog post on the Gary Sinise Foundation website, where he disclosed that Mac had recorded an album in the months leading up to his demise.

In a touching tribute, the actor wrote, “The week the album went to press, Mac lost his battle with cancer. He died on January 5, 2024, at 3:25 pm, and was laid to rest on January 23rd. Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can…I am so blessed, fortunate, and proud to be his dad.”
Mac’s battle with Chordoma began in August 2018, shortly after his mother was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Despite intensive treatment, including surgeries and procedures, Mac’s condition continued to deteriorate, ultimately leading to his passing.

Reflecting on their family’s journey, Gary shared the challenges they faced, stating, “As parents, it is so difficult losing a child. My heart goes out to all who have suffered a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one.”
In his post Gary likened Mac’s determination to the resilient soldier portrayed in the film ‘1917’, who, despite facing relentless challenges, refuses to quit and keeps moving forward.
While grieving the loss of his son, Gary said that his family finds solace in knowing that Mac is no longer suffering. “While our hearts ache at missing him, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no longer struggling, and inspired and moved by how he managed it. He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never quit trying,” he wrote.
