‘Exhuma’ shatters record as FIRST Korean occult horror film to surpass 7 million moviegoers | – Times of India


Breaking records and captivating audiences, ‘Exhuma’ has carved its name in South Korean cinematic history. The Korean Film Council’s latest announcement confirmed that as of March 8, the occult horror sensation had drawn an impressive total of 7,009,491 moviegoers. This remarkable feat marks a milestone for the genre, establishing ‘Exhuma’ as the first Korean occult horror film to achieve such monumental success at the box office.
The film’s narrative revolves around two exorcists portrayed by Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun, alongside a mortician played by Yoo Hae Jin and a feng shui master embodied by Choi Min Sik. Together, they undertake the task of relocating mysterious graves, lured by the promise of substantial amount of money.
Notably, ‘Exhuma’ raced to surpass the 7 million mark in under 16 days, setting a new speed record and eclipsing the achievement of ‘12.12: The Day’, the country’s reigning box office hit of 2023, by a staggering four days.
Director Jang Jae Hyun, in recognition of the milestone achieved by the film, gathered with esteemed cast members Choi Min Sik, Kim Jae Chul, Kim Go Eun, and Yoo Hae Jin for a joyous photo. Notably absent from the snapshot was Lee Do Hyun, who is currently fulfilling his military duties.
