During a recent interview, Shah Rukh Khan‘s co-actor from the film, Tiku Talsania, disclosed that Shah Rukh would consume alcohol during the shoot, believing it was essential for portraying the character convincingly.
In an interview with Digital Commentary, Tiku Talsania, who portrayed the character Dharamdas in the film, revealed an incident during the shoot. He mentioned that while filming under the intense sun, Shah Rukh Khan consumed shots of rum continuously.Talsania expressed concern, to which Khan responded in a manner reminiscent of his character in ‘Devdas,’ implying that his performance would not be affected by the alcohol consumption.

Expanding on his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, Tiku Talsania emphasized the importance of authenticity in portraying intoxication on screen. He noted the significance of alcohol reflecting in the eyes for convincing acting, especially in a character like Devdas.

Tiku further lauded Shah Rukh as a ‘genius’ who meticulously crafts his characters through hard work. He recounted instances where Shah Rukh arrived on the set of ‘Devdas’ with his own shot breakdown, despite Sanjay Leela Bhansali being the director. Together, they would review both versions and collaborate on shooting the scenes.
