Salman Khan’s ex-girlfriend and a former Bollywood actor turned social activist, Somy Ali recently voiced her support for Zeenat Aman‘s stance on live-in relationships, emphasizing their potential to reduce divorce rates. She defended Zeenat’s remarks amid criticism, citing personal experiences and societal trends.
During an interaction with the Hindustan Times, Somy Ali recounted her acquaintance with Zeenat Aman and praised her intellect, highlighting her qualifications in journalism and her progressive views on modern relationships. She endorsed the veteran actress’ argument that live-in arrangements allow individuals to establish boundaries and understand each other better, potentially mitigating the likelihood of divorce, whose rate has globally increased.
“Whatever Zeenat Ji has said, I 100% support her in this,” she mentioned. She emphasized the fact that everyone has their own idiosyncrasies. In live-in relationships, one can learn a lot about personal likes and dislikes.“We no longer live in the 1950s. In 2024, the world has changed a lot, and a man and a woman can be in a live-in relationship,” she added. Somy Ali further acknowledged the evolving societal landscape, asserting that traditional norms no longer wholly dictate relationships in contemporary times. She cited the prevalence of divorce in arranged marriages in India and Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of compatibility and mutual understanding, which live-in relationships can facilitate.
Ali spoke about dowry as well, which though is illegal in both India and Pakistan, people do not shy away from asking it. She said everyone does it behind the curtain, be it in India, Pakistan or America.

Drawing from her advocacy work supporting survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, Somy Ali reiterated the significance of open discourse on alternative relationship models. She commended Aman for sparking conversations that challenge conventional norms and potentially contribute to societal progress.
While Somy Ali’s remarks may spark further debate, her endorsement of Zeenat Aman’s stance underscores the importance of exploring diverse perspectives on modern relationships. As society continues to evolve, discussions around topics like live-in arrangements serve as crucial catalysts for understanding and adapting to changing norms and values.
