Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan, two stars celebrated in music and film, have ended their year-long relationship. A source confirmed to People on December 3.
The couple first sparked public curiosity in December 2023, when they were seen enjoying an intimate dinner in Los Angeles. Five months later, they solidified their status as a Hollywood power couple by stepping out together on the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala.
Over the course of their relationship, the “Girl Meets World” alum and “Saltburn” star were unapologetic in showcasing their connection. From Keoghan appearing in Carpenter’s music video for “Please Please Please” to accompanying her on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, their public appearances reflected a dynamic partnership.
In an interview on CBS “Sunday Morning” in October 2024, Carpenter explained her decision to cast Keoghan in her music video, jokingly sharing, “I was like, ‘Who’s the greatest actor that I can find for this music video?’ And he was next to me in a chair. And he was so excited about it.”
Keoghan’s Admiration for Carpenter
The relationship wasn’t just a personal one; it was professionally supportive as well. Keoghan was vocal about his admiration for Carpenter’s talent, particularly after she received seven Grammy nominations ahead of the 2025 ceremony. On the Jess Cagle Show podcast in November, he described her as a force of nature in the industry. “I’m in awe watching her work and how committed and the standards that she sets,” he said.
Beyond professional accolades, Keoghan’s gestures of support extended to Carpenter’s live performances. He frequently attended her shows during her opening sets on Swift’s “Eras Tour”, signaling his unwavering encouragement.
However, despite their strong creative connection, sources suggest their chemistry may not have translated as seamlessly into their personal lives. As fans digest news of the split, neither star has publicly commented on the breakup.
Moving Forward With Their Celebrated Careers
For now, both Carpenter, 25, and Keoghan, 32, appear to be focusing on their respective careers. Carpenter is riding high on the success of her recent projects and Grammy nods, while Keoghan continues to gain acclaim for his performances in critically celebrated films.
This news comes right before Carpenter’s Netflix special, “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter“, a festive variety special set to premiere on December 6 at 9 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. PT.
Carpenter expressed her excitement about the project in a recent statement. “The holidays have always been so special to me,” she shared. “I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.”
The special will showcase Carpenter performing tracks from her holiday EP, “Fruitcake“, as well as renditions of beloved holiday classics. Fans can expect a vibrant blend of humor and heartfelt musical performances, reflecting Carpenter’s multifaceted artistry.
