22 Looks That Did the Most at the Grammys

The music industry’s biggest stars attended the 66th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in attire as varied as their songs and albums. Much of that attire — whether it was a cutout gown or a sheer shirt — exposed midsections.

Dua Lipa and Miley Cyrus were two of the many who chose outfits with metallic tones, perhaps in hopes of earning a golden statue to match. Gracie Abrams, Paris Jackson and others opted for black, while Kylie Minogue and Bonnie McKee were among those in red, one of the most popular colors seen on carpets this awards season. (Ms. McKee complemented her red dress with a nest of fiery hair.)

Several of the night’s most memorable looks reminded viewers that there’s nothing wrong with replaying old hits. Laverne Cox, the E! host who interviewed stars on the red carpet, wore a structured Comme des Garçons dress from 2015, and Olivia Rodrigo chose a white Versace gown that is almost 10 years older than she is.

The Grammy Awards are known to be a fashion playground, and this year’s event was no exception. But the following 22 looks (three of which belonged to the members of boygenius) stood out more than most, for better or worse.

Some people saw Cleopatra. Others saw Barbarella, or Princess Leia in her Jabba the Hutt period. Whatever the references, the “Flowers” singer’s metal mesh by Maison Margiela was marvelous.

Ice Spice: Most Foxy!

More exciting than the return of the rapper’s Little Orphan Annie curls was that she brought Baby Phat back to the red-carpet discourse.

In a sea of tuxedos, the rapper and singer maximized comfort. He ever so slightly dressed up his white T-shirt with a tan lumberjack coat that had a subtle checker pattern, turquoise buttons and a shearling collar.

Olivia Rodrigo: Most Throwback!

The “Vampire” singer, whose teenage years are barely behind her, chose a bedazzled 1995 Versace gown. If there were an award for oldest dress, she might have won it.

Janelle Monáe: Most Polished!

The neckline of the singer’s Armani gown climbed to two triangular peaks before plunging toward a black-and-white rosette near her bellybutton. On the red carpet, she described the dress as “timeless” and “futuristic.”

Kylie Minogue: Most Padam!

Flowing cape sleeves, a lacy corset and leg slits added drama to the “Padam Padam” singer’s scarlet Dolce & Gabbana gown.

Billie Eilish: Most Quiet Luxury!

The singer’s ensemble included an old “Barbie” jacket that was reworked with vegan leather patches, silk sleeves and silver buttons by Chrome Hearts.

Lenny Kravitz: Most Lenny!

He wore what only Lenny Kravitz can: an ab-baring sheer top under an ultra-cropped leather jacket by Rick Owens. His pants were tight, and his cross necklaces were many.

Lana Del Rey: Most Mob Wife in Mourning!

The singer evoked a certain TikTok style trend with her heavy bangs and her combination of black floral knee-length dress and bow-adorned heels.

Boygenius: Most Loud and Clear!

The band’s members — Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker — wore matching Thom Browne white suits, a style known as a symbol of protest. On the lapels of their jackets were flowers and pins that read “artists for cease-fire.”

Dua Lipa: Most Spangly!

“It’s very heavy,” the singer said of her silver Courrèges gown with hip cutouts. She accessorized with Tiffany jewelry and hair dyed the color of Cherry Coke.

Peso Pluma: Most Yeehaw!

A fashion mullet and rectangular sunglasses topped the singer’s outfit of an embroidered Louis Vuitton tuxedo over a turquoise-and-silver-embellished shirt.

Caroline Polachek: Most Blood Pumping!

The singer was another who went back in time with her look: She chose a 1998 venous Olivier Theyskens dress that surely tugged at vintage fans’ heartstrings.

Victoria Monét: Most Mommy and Me!

Rather than a handbag, she carried her daughter, Hazel, whose dress was the same bronze shade as the “On My Mama” singer’s corseted Versace gown.

Doja Cat: Most Naughty Professor!

Thick black glasses gave a bookish quality to the rapper’s otherwise spicy look, which included a tattoo-and-nipple-revealing Dilara Findikoglu gown and red platform heels.

Jack Antonoff: Most Adorkable!

The musician and producer looked rather charming in his wire-rimmed glasses and simple double-breasted suit worn with no tie.

Taylor Swift: Most Neutral!

At a time when much has been made of her influence on red and blue voters, the singer’s choice of a white Schiaparelli gown and black gloves seemed decidedly nonpartisan.

21 Savage: Most Studded!

The rapper said he was “keeping it classy” in his black Ernest W. Baker suit trimmed in gold studs, which he accessorized with leather gloves and shades.

Paris Hilton: Most Brand Loyal!

With her spearmint webbed Reem Acra gown, the heiress and occasional singer and DJ carried a like-colored clutch emblazoned with — what else? — her last name. (The Hilton hotel company was a partner of the award show.)

Lauren Daigle: Most Ludicrously Capacious Hat!

The contemporary Christian singer accessorized her shredded multicolor dress with stacks of bracelets and an unmissable flat-brim hat.
