Mandia Music : Hip Hop/R&B Soul Sensation

Unlike many of the flights of fancy of one’s childhood, Mandia is actually living her dream. The Ottawa-area 16 year old has already accomplished so much as an artist in those intervening years, and her star is very much on the rise.

On the heels of her 2012 debut single and video Never Again; Mandia has just released a second hotly-anticipated single and video entitled “One Last Time” (written by James Fauntleroy, who has penned songs for the likes of Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna). The songs are both a benchmark and launching pad in the life and career of this talented pop/R&B artist, as the lead in to her forthcoming debut album.Mandia Music : Hip Hop/R&B Soul SensationAlready the buzz has begun. Producers and songwriters from throughout North America are clamouring to work with Mandia and her impressively expressive voice. She already boasts an impressive following through social media, and has her sights set firmly on breaking through in a big way.And it’s from seemingly normal, humble beginnings that Mandia finds herself poised to make such a profound impact on the music scene.Mandia Music : Hip Hop/R&B Soul SensationHer earliest memories of music are of enjoying the rhythms of the music she was hearing while taking dance lessons at age six. She then started to latch onto certain songs she was hearing on the radio, and quickly developed an affinity for the pop/R&B sound that has come to dominate the airwaves in recent years.“I would hear a song in dance and say, ‘oh, I really like that.’ And I would hear things on the radio and sing along to them. I guess at that age you kind of copy everything you hear, or copy everything you see. And whenever I heard a Christina Aguilera song come on the radio, I would try to do what she did,” beams Mandia.Mandia Music : Hip Hop/R&B Soul SensationHer discerning ear, even as a youngster led her to develop an appreciation for vocalists with power, range and an ability to transcend genres and fads. So besides Aguilera, Mandia became an ardent admirer of the likes of Beyonce, Whitney, Celine and Mariah.“Obviously, their range is phenomenal. Their voices are so powerful, but they can also bring a sweetness and softness to their singing. They all have that in common and I think that’s why I love them all and trying to develop my voice in the same way. They all have such a huge range and I love that they are all great performers onstage too. They have so much stage presence. They are amazing.”
Mandia wants to also have the same staying power as her idols, and wants to challenge herself to not just become another teen pop sensation.Mandia Music : Hip Hop/R&B Soul Sensation

“I want to be an artist who everybody will remember and still have those fun songs. Beyonce can nail a song like Crazy in Love, but then she can throw out Single Ladies, and still be fun and have that pop hit. That’s what I want to do. I want to be diverse and I want to have staying power.”
